Resonance is currently seeking Livelihoods Specialist candidates to propose for an upcoming 5-year USAID/Ghana funded Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA) project. The purpose of this activity is to mitigate the near-collapse of the small pelagic fisheries sector in Ghana and establish a durable basis for its recovery. The Livelihoods Specialist will support diversified livelihoods opportunities for fishing households, with a particular focus on youth.
The Livelihoods Specialist will work closely with the Livelihoods and Market Integration team, members of the Resonance home office project management team, and other internal and external stakeholders to identify and support diversified livelihood opportunities for individuals and households engaged in the fisheries sector. S/he will identify attractive diversified  livelihoods activities that build on skills common in fisheries households, organize trainings to strengthen technical and financial capacity of participants, and work with the Grants Manager to oversee grants to support organizations providing training and support for selected livelihoods.
This will be a full-time position based in Accra, Ghana.

Responsibilities

    • Develop and oversee approaches and activities to identify and support diversified livelihoods opportunities for fishing households, especially youth.
    • Conduct training of trainers for partners and grantees implementing livelihood programs, on  financial literacy, financial and business management and technical skills relevant to diversified livelihoods
    • Develop partnerships with private sector, civil society, and public institutions to support youth entrepreneurship, workforce development, and capacity building
    • Work closely with the Grants Manager to evaluate livelihoods grant proposals, provide technical support through grant co-creation processes, and provide technical backstopping and oversight for management of livelihoods grants
    • Work with the Financial Inclusion Specialist to link participants to microfinance and other sources of finance
    • Monitor impacts of livelihoods workstream on participant’s incomes and wellbeing
    • Produce reports evaluating the potential of piloted livelihoods to provide supplementary income to households involved in fisheries in collaboration with Livelihoods and Market Integration team and home office staff
    • Document implementation successes, challenges, and lessons learned and share them with through regular program reports
    • Other duties upon request

Required Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in degree in economic development, business, or a relevant field
    • Ten (10) years of experience designing and implementing livelihoods activities
    • Experience with supplementary livelihoods and micro-entrepreneurship, specific experience working with small scale fisheries value chains preferred
    • Experience successfully integrating youth into livelihoods activities
    • Ability to develop effective working relationships with local organizations, community groups, microfinance institutions, and other program partners and stakeholders
    • Ability to conceptualize, plan, guide, and implement livelihoods and community business strengthening, with demonstrated experience in enterprise development
    • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-cultural teams
    • Proven ability to meet targets and deadlines for a project of similar scope and size
    • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated track record of working effectively in a teamwork environment
    • Experience providing technical assistance, including organizing and conducting workshops and trainings
